Theatre Practitioner and Somatic Consultant: A Philosophical Statement

Golden Texture_edited_edited_edited.png

As a theatre and somatic practitioner whose practice is based in Social Presencing Theatre, Mind-Body Coaching and Yoga, my approach, deeply rooted in curiosity, authenticity, and a process of continuous investigation builds internal space. I am committed to fostering empathy, creating a safe-enough space that is trauma-informed so participantes can rest and actively explore and deepen their relationship with their bodies, minds, hearts and spirits.

My facilitation is centered on restorative practices that lead to comprehensive health and wellness, with a strong focus on addressing internal oppression through somatic and body-based strategies rooted in indigenous practices and the ancestral wisdom drawing from global majority cultures both east and west. I acknowledge and foregroundt healing as a physical act and provide a holistic, body-based experience in workshop that engages the mind and heart. This approach is especially useful for building internal capacity for those carrying the weight of historical and systemic trauma.

The core of my yoga practice is Restorative Yoga, which emphasizes deep relaxation, healing, and renewal. This gentle approach allows students to unwind, reconnect with their breath, and restore balance to the nervous system through Polyvagal work, helping folks to begin a journey of recovery from the accumulative micro stresses of daily life and macro-level trauma. Drawing from a variety of yoga traditions, including Hatha, Kemetic, Yin, Kriya, Tantric and Raja the participant receives restorative benefit that leads to a more sustainably productive and pleasurable moment-to-moment existence. I incorporate diverse tools and practices to meet each client where they are.

The Social Prescensing Theatre work gives participants the opportunity to utilize story and physical theatre as tools to building a gateway to extending the theatrical discipline of storytelling as tools applied to wider and more holistic application to ones life and work.

Yoga offers a foundational approach to balancing the physical body and calming the mind. Through deliberate and intentional breathwork and alignment-based asanas (postures) that encourage awareness, strength, and flexibility while providing a grounding framework for other practices.

Kemetic yoga’s ancient wisdom helps reconnect us to our roots, providing a grounding foundation in breath and movement.

Yin yoga, with its deep, meditative stretches, allows for slow, intentional work that invites the release of stored trauma.

Kriya yoga and Tantric yoga bring focus to the breath and energy, helping to cultivate self-awareness and transcend the limitations of the body and mind, while supporting the deeper spiritual work of transformation.

Raja yoga emphasizes the path of meditation and self-discipline, focusing on the control of the mind and the cultivation of inner peace. It provides a structured framework for mental clarity, self-mastery, and spiritual awakening.

I also incorporate Yoga Nidra to guide clients into a deep state of conscious relaxation, fostering mental clarity, emotional release, and spiritual healing. This practice, often called "yogic sleep," allows for profound rejuvenation on the subconscious level and enhances the overall therapeutic benefits of yoga.
