Artistry: Vision and Creativity in My Body of Work
​My artistic practice is rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that storytelling is a transformative act. Leading Actors Theatre through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and a national reckoning on racial justice, I sought new ways to connect artists and audiences across mediums and distances. We opened the 2020–21 season with Hannah L. Drake’s Fix It, Black Girl and The Bengsons’ The Keep Going Song, works that embodied our commitment to authenticity, interdisciplinary innovation, and social dialogue.
Under my direction, Actors Theatre became a laboratory for multiplatform storytelling—producing live world premieres, digital works, and community-centered pieces that bridged art and activism. My vision has always been to integrate artistry with well-being and cross-cultural understanding, ensuring that creative expression serves both the individual and the collective good and that radical belonging and artistic excellence are not mutually exclusive—they are, in fact, inseparable.

Promise and Staying Power

I see my work as part of an ongoing continuum—one that continues to evolve as I do. The initiatives we built in Learning and Creative Engagement, the reimagined New Voices program for young artists, and the expanded opportunities for bilingual and interdisciplinary expression all point toward a sustainable and inclusive future for the arts.
As an educator, performer, and storyteller, I remain committed to nurturing environments where imagination, empathy, and equity thrive together. The staying power of this work lies in its ability to inspire others to lead with openness and courage—to build spaces where art doesn’t just entertain, but enlightens, heals, and unites.
